The three main types of fire alarm system

Conventional Fire Alarms
These fire detection systems divide your premises into a number of zones. In the event of an alert – that may be triggered automatically by a smoke detector or manually by a ‘break glass’ alarm – wiring that is linked to an LED control panel will identify the zone. But it won’t indicate the precise area;

Addressable Fire Alarms
Here, each individual device, such as a smoke or heat detector, has its own unique device address. If one activates, the fire alarm system control panel tells you precisely where the problem is.

Wireless Fire Alarms
A fire detection system which uses a secure wireless link between the sensor and the control panel. Wireless fire alarms will offer sounders, beacons and call points. These are a great option if you don’t want lots of cabling on your business premises.

Wireless Fire Alarms

We install many wireless fire alarms throughout Ireland every week.

Wireless fire alarms are great for buildings where there is no space for running cables safely or no space for concealing cables to ensure that the cable cannot be seen.

Wireless fire alarms can be installed 5 times faster that wired systems.

So which type of fire alarm system is right for your business? Unfortunately there’s no one answer. It depends on the size and layout of your premises, the budget available and, crucially, the competence of the installer.

A conventional fire alarm system is not be as sophisticated as the addressable fire detection system.

But the fact that it’s simpler doesn’t necessarily make it less effective or unreliable. For some businesses a simple, less costly, conventional solution will be the best option.

Addressable fire alarm systems are the more accurate at pinpointing the seat of a fire and can reduce greatly the incidence of false alarms (a profit-swallowing nuisance) by constantly sampling air for contamination.

They’re more complex and you should certainly make sure your installer is properly qualified to carry out these works . But, correctly fitted, they are the most cost effective and very reliable.

Wireless fire alarm systems in Ireland are now well-established and are an excellent solution for business wanting to avoid the cost and disruption of installing cabling everywhere.

Wireless fire alarms will especially appeal to schools, hospitals and shops or companies based in heritage sites and buildings where the fabric and décor has to be very carefully preserved.
